Shawna Brackens, 55, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Shawna Brackens was a free-lance writer,Artist, poet, game developer and author. She has won numerous awards for literary excellence. Shawna has been honored as an International Poet of Merit. Her writings have been selected for the Town Poet section of The New Albany Tribune . Her poems are showcased in over 30 publications nationally and internationally. In 1997, Shawna was formally inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame. Shawna was also nominated as Poet of the Year-1997. Her first book, The outskirts of Bethlehem, is a collection of selected poetry. Her second book, Born to Be Great, is a motivational book on purpose and destiny. Her third book, Match Game, is a fun, educational book for children of all ages. Her fourth book, Soul Source, was co- author with a group of friends, Stories of women who relied on GOD during difficult times. Her Fifth book, keep the Beat: The rhythm of a awarding speech. Focus on speech development and delivery. The traveler Shawna has traveled to over twenty-five nations as well 49 United States, She never let's dust settle under her feet. 

The humanitarian: 

She was the President of The Potter's House Fellowship International, the Founder of The W.H.EW. Global Platform and A Piece of Bread, Inc. She also sponsored and founded educational institutions in Africa and supported churches in Korea. 

The Education:

She is a graduate of Indiana University and was a certified TESO.L instructor. Shawna also attend Bible College where she received her Doctors of divinity.

Some of her honors: 

The Rosa Parks Award, Outstanding Educator of the Year, and Korea Toast- masters National Speech Evaluation Champion, just to name a few.

Shawna was a worldwide evangelist preacher and teacher. She loved God and she loved his people. She lived her dream of being a self-supported servant in East Asia. Her goal in life is to be an example word, hope, and charity.

Shawna had a warm robust smile, and a contagious laughter. Her go was to make your day. She was so funny you'd laugh and cry at the same time as she enthusiastically entertained. Shawna will be missed by many friend and family world wide. As Shawna would say" I love you , NOW GO BE GREAT!"

Shawna is survived by her siblings, Odell, Jr. (Blanche), George, Kevin, Henry, Steven Brackens, Renita McCloud, DeVonne Whiting, Lisa Sheppard, and Trina Brackens; God son, Keith Simmons; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Greater Mount Zion Apostolic Church, (3845 Wayne Street, New Albany, Indiana) with her funeral service taking place at 12:00 pm.
