Shawanda Leona Murrell

Shawanda Leona Murrell, age 62, of Louisville, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, February 17, 2025. A deeply loving mother, sister, and Granny, Shawanda had an extraordinary ability to connect with others, leaving a lasting impression on all she encountered. Known for her kindness and generosity, she consistently extended a helping hand to those in need. Shawanda’s warmth and love will be fondly remembered, as will her endearing enthusiasm for her favorite meal – chicken! She will be profoundly missed by everyone privileged to know her.

Born on November 4, 1962, in Louisville, Kentucky, Shawanda was the daughter of James Webster and Peggy Murrell. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, James Webster; her mother, Peggy Lee Earsery; her cherished grandmother, Leona Murrell; and her grandfather, Willie Murrell.

Shawanda’s legacy continues through her loving family, which includes her children: Shawanta Murrell, Raymont Murrell, Dontay Murrell, and Donyell Murrell. She is also survived by her siblings: Dana Murrell, Mia Giles, Darrell (Monica) Earsery, and Romano Earsery, as well as her adored grandchildren: Nariyah Murrell, Damorion Murrell, Dereon Duncan, Mahogany Murrell, and Zyaire Shaw. Her memory will be cherished forever by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Reception, Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Highway. A celebration of Shawanda’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on the same day at the funeral home.
