Shannon Metts, of Louisville, Kentucky, was born on August 28, 1960, and passed away on June 13, 2021 at the age of 60. He was one of the best iron workers in the industry and enjoyed pointing out his craftmanship around town. In all his years, he never met a stranger and to know him was to love him. He was generous with his love and his snorting laughter. He was happiest when he was wearing snakeskin boots and a cowboy hat, and in his chair with dogs in his lap.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Metts Sr; brother, James Metts Jr, sister, Bonnie Johnston, brother, Roger Metts, brother, Bruce Metts; nephews, Michael Ross Metts and Gary Wayne Montgomery.
He was survived by his mother, Thelma Metts; longtime companion, Donna Downs; two children, Melissa Thomas (Payton), and Lauren Baker (Phil); 2 granddaughters (Parker and Eleanor); sisters Darlene Metts, Sherry Metts, and Juanice Metts; brothers Ronnie Metts (Linda), Tim Metts (Terri), and Kerry Metts (Heather); and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws who adored him.
Visitation will be held 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday June 18th at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville Chapel, (235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243). Funeral services in celebration of his life will be 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
