Sean Cortez Ellery, age 54, passed June 20, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. His journey began in October 2021, and he fought a good fight until the end. The staff became part of the family during his journey. He was born November 24, 1967, to Bernadetta Taylor. Sean is preceded in death by his father, Don Ellery.
Sean was baptized at First Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. He graduated from Atherton High School in 1986. Sean was joined in union to Cheryl Ellery on August 10, 2002. He was an Ironworker Journeyman out of Local 70 where he worked for over 18 years. Some of his major projects include the Ohio River Bridges Project, East End Bridge, various projects at UPS, and installation of the big screen at Churchill Downs. Sean loved his Ironworker brothers and many of them called him Big Country and Big Sean. He also traveled and worked at many automotive plants as a Safety Inspector.
Sean was a University of Louisville basketball fan and a Philadelphia Eagles football fan. Sean served as a MOI (Man of Iota) for the Epsilon Psi Chapter of Murfreesboro, TN. He loved his family, and friends. He was known as Pappis and Pawpaw by his grandkids. Sean touched so many lives every place he would go and kept it real with everyone. One of Sean's favorite places to travel was Vegas.
Sean leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cheryl Ellery; children, Brinson Ellery (Mariah), Tenesha Ellery, Sean C. Ellery Jr., Jamie Jackson, Nathan Bailey, and Se'Von Ellery; 8 grandchildren; mother, Bernadetta Taylor; siblings, Eric Garrett (Adrienne), Shemai Ellery; nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 10 am-12 noon, Saturday July 2, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243, with a celebration of life ceremony at
noon.
Sean's services will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
