Scott Staidle (68) passed away at home on February 10, 2024 after a short illness.
A graduate of Mentor, (OH) High School he attended Eastman School of Music and got his MM from the University of Michigan. While studying classical violin with an assistant concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra he also played football, he was recruited by Ohio State University football coach Woody Hayes, and also played guitar in rock and country bands.
After being hired as a member of the first violin section of the Grammy award winning Louisville Orchestra in 1980 Scott formed his own string quartet, Derby City Strings/BurningRiver String Quartet. He arranged and composed the music for the group for many years. He had his quartet and violin duets published by international music publisher Mel Bay. He also arranged music for the Louisville Orchestra as backup for several artists, including Mel Tillis.
A lifelong Led Zeppelin fan he performed in the string section for the Page/Plant tour. He was able to cross over between the classical and rock world with ease. After orchestra concerts he would often go to one of the many blues bars in Louisville and join whatever band would be playing on his violin. He was also a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. GO BROWNS! An avid fisherman he enjoyed deep sea fishing and bass fishing at Fort Knox.
He is preceded in death by sister Stacie Staidle, father and mother Stanley and Stephanie Staidle. He is survived by wife Nancy and son Alex (Elina) Staidle. He leaves behind sisters and brothers-in-law Ken and Kathie Raymond, Walt and Marilyn Hefty, cousins, several childhood friends whose friendships have lasted 62 years and many other friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
