Scott Leroy Rehmel

Scott LeRoy Rehmel, 72, of Borden, Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023. Scott's family moved to Borden from Sullivan, Indiana. Scott graduated from Borden High School, where he played basketball. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. Around this time, he met Donna, whom he married on September 19, 1970. He and Donna raised three boys while Scott worked as a mechanic at Wright Brothers, as well as doing mechanic work on his own.
He always kept busy as a scout leader and master cooker. He was known for always tinkering and for being a friend to local farmers. Scott was always a favorite uncle and was thrilled when his two granddaughters arrived in 2008. In his last few years, he spent his time enjoying long walks, picking flowers for Donna, frequenting Norma Jean's Ice Cream, and serving as "bouncer" at the Borden Library. Keep smiling, Scott; we love you.
He was born on August 2, 1950, in Sullivan, Indiana, to Robert and Virginia (Payne) Rehmel. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Tony Rehmel; and sister, Mildred Shafer.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna Jean (Sumner) Rehmel; children, Michael (Jessica) Rehmel, Todd (Sylvia) Rehmel, and Louis (Beth Prather) Rehmel; siblings, Russ (Tina) Rehmel, Terri (Robert, Sr.) Reed, Sandy (Greg) Sanders, and Randy (Tina) Rehmel; sister-in-law, Patricia Evans; brother-in-law, Gene Shafer; grandchildren, Mercedes and Kelsey Rehmel; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, with his funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery (3838 Paoli Pike, Floyds Knobs).
