Charlestown

Sarah Jane Laney-Pitman, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 11, 2024 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Born on April 14, 1960, in Jeffersonville, Sarah dedicated her life to advocating for children as a coordinator at the Ed Endris Boys & Girls Club in New Albany, Indiana. For Sarah, her work was never just a job; it was a calling fueled by her immense love for children. She poured her heart into her role, welcoming all kids with open arms and advocating for their well-being as if they were her own.

Sarah was a warm soul who had a unique talent for bringing joy to those around her. Her laughter was infectious, and her ability to make people smile was a beautiful gift she shared freely. A deeply spiritual woman, Sarah lived her life guided by her faith, embodying principles that aligned with love, kindness, and respect. She was a fierce supporter of women's rights, proudly standing up for what she believed in and encouraging others to do the same.

Outside of her professional life, Sarah was equally devoted to her family and friends. She cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was gardening, engaging in creative arts, or just sharing stories and laughter. She was famously known for her knack for repairing things, a testament to her being a true jack of all trades. Sarah took pride in cultivating friendships and being there for those she loved.

Her husband, Michael Allen Pitman, was her steadfast companion, and together they created a household filled with love and laughter. She is survived by her children, Ryan (Kaela) Frantz, Jennifer Frantz, Rebecca (Andy) Jackson, and Elizabeth (Justin Morris) Frantz, who carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. Sarah was also a cherished grandmother to Abram, Isabella, Draven, Dovie, Rowan, Maverick, Marley, Olivia, Ryleigh Zayden, Jovon, Josiah, Aniyah, Bryce, Addison, Max, and Emma, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Sarah is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Regina (Allan) Gudgeons and Carolyn (Ron) Baylor, who continue to honor her spirit of generosity and love.

She is predeceased by her parents, Russell C. and Doris Lee Laney, and her granddaughter, Lillian Frantz. Their memories are interwoven with her own, forged in the bonds of love that will never fade.

As we celebrate the life of Sarah Jane Laney-Pitman, we honor her incredible spirit and the love she exuded. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
