Sarah was 40 years old when she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain cancer, an astrocytoma. She was so brave and strong as she fought the tumor. She was cared for in her home for 2 and ½ years. At the end of this time the pain became so severe, Hospice sent her to Scott Memorial Hospital, in Scottsburg, IN. She died a week later, peacefully, free of pain. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Southern IN. Sarah's nurse was Krista Couch. Krista and Sarah connected the first time they met. Sarah could talk to her about the "hard things". She went beyond her duties and took care of us both. We also want to acknowledge Sarah's oncologist, Donald Miller MD (Brown Cancer Center). Never have we met a kinder man. And finally, the people that work at Scott Memorial Hospital. It is by far the best hospital we have ever experienced. Thank you, Hospice of Southern Indiana, for getting Sarah admitted. Dr. Skip was an amazing doctor and individual. The first night, he stayed with Sarah six hours adjusting her medications to relieve her pain. The nursing staff (4th wing) was so compassionate. We have never seen such wonderful patient care.
The legacy of Sarah's generosity and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. We love you. We miss you. We celebrate your life!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a contribution to Episcopal Relief & Development's Gifts for Life. Sarah enjoyed goats. She and her brothers even did ''yoga with the goats". In Nicaragua goats are helpful to the village farmer. A goat gives sustainability to the farmer. Goats are hardy, reproduce quickly and can be raised in many climates to produce stable items such as milk, cheese and manure for farming. A donation of $80.00 buys one goat. There are other animal gifts and sustainable systems. Any amount will be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Memorial Service will be at 12:00 pm on Saturday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Cremation was chosen following Sarah's wishes.
