Sara L. Long

October 24, 1938 — November 14, 2024

Louisville, Kentucky

Sara L. Long, affectionately known as "Nana," passed away on November 14, 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 86. Born on October 24, 1938, in Springfield, Kentucky, she brought love and warmth to everyone who knew her. A graduate Mercy Academy of Louisville, Sara dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for her family and friends, building deep connections that will be cherished forever.

Sara was a beloved mother to her son, Ronnie Long, Jr. (Karen); daughter, Kathy Keeling (John); and son, David Long (Lynnette). She delighted in being a grandmother to her grandchildren, including Ashley Puckett (Tom), Aaron Long (Chelsea), Tyler Swenson (Sarah), Ryan Green, Jacob Long (Emma), Devin Metz (Chris), and Nathan Long. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren, Lynlee, Layni, Natalie, Katelyn, and Christopher, who brought joy to her life and whose laughter she often cherished. Sara is also survived by her dear sister, Shirley Miller, and her brother, Freddie Smith.

Sara's personality was characterized by an overwhelming sense of love; she was truly a Nana to many, whether related by blood or not. Her passions included reading, watching her grandkids and great-grandkids grow, holding babies, and cheering on her beloved UofL Sports teams, activities that brought her immense joy and fulfillment.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph P. and Mary C. Smith; her sisters, Irene Stubberfield, Thelma Kayse, and Ruby Brown; as well as her brothers, Buddy Smith, J.W. Smith, and Tommy Smith. Their memories will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
