Sandra 'Sandy' Reese was born in Edgemont, S.D. on March 6, 1939, one of four daughters of Dorothy and Austin Melton. She and Lt. Richard W. Reese were married Oct. 21, 1959 in Sparks, Nevada. They moved several times with the Air Force, then lived in California when he went to work with Allstate Insurance Company.
They lived in Chicago for 23 years before retiring to Louisville, Ky. Over the years, she volunteered for a number of organizations as her daughters were growing up, including the Girl Scouts of America and local churches. She sang with the Melodeers Chapter of SWEET ADELINES INTERNATIONAL as well as serving in various capacities at the Chapter, Regional and International level. She was a member of TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL, and chaired several committees for NEWCOMERS CLUB OF LOUISVILLE and BUNBURY THEATRE. She also freelanced as a functions coordinator, events planner, and on-site wedding coordinator, and was active with a number of not-for-profit organizations. From 1991-1996 she was the Director of Admissions at SACRED HEART SCHOOL in Chicago, a position that gave her a chance to promote a unique educational opportunity. She was a voracious reader and loved needlepoint, cooking and baking and although always involved in community activities, the focus of her life remained her husband, her 4 daughters, and 9 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and older sister Diane, and is survived by her husband Dick, sisters Judy Melton and Mary Catherine Melton, her daughters Deborah Hall (Brian), Alicia Reese, Susan Pittman, and Catharine Bomhold; her grandchildren, Peter, Max and Austin Bomhold; Heather and Nathan Pittman, Erin VanOver (Austin); Wyeth Reese-Davies; Sara Sorenson (George) and Aiden Hall, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. To all her friends and family, "Thanks for all of the laughter, tears and good time over the years."
A celebration of Sandy's life will be 12:00 PM Saturday, July 8, 2023 at All Peoples Unitarian Universalist Church, 4936 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40222, and reception with family & friends immediately following the service until 3:30 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Scholar House or All Peoples Endowment Fund, Louisville, KY, in her memory.
