Samuel Bowerman

March 5, 1953 — October 26, 2012

Samuel Brady Bowerman was born March 5, 1953 and left us on October 26, 2012, surrounded by loving family and friends.

He is predeceased by his beloved parents Bill and Betty Bowerman and his nephew Brian. His fellow musician and good friend, Dennis Ervin also predeceased Sam.

Sam was a very proud member of the Louisville Male High School class of 1971 and was crowned king of their 40th reunion in 2011. He was a pipe organ builder and musician by trade and lived out the words "Make a joyous noise unto the Lord." He was a member of the Bach Society and the Organ Guild.

He is survived by his wife Virginia; children: Kris Bowerman, Rachael Bowerman and her partner Melanie, Brady Bowerman and her partner Darren, Nick Bowerman and Nora Koebel and her husband Travis; his brother Scott, wife Pat and their daughter Beth. He has 7 grandchildren: Caylyn, Loren, Abigail, Clara, Sarah, Samuel and Conner. A host of special friends also survive him including Bob Martin, Tim Baker, Melvin and Margaret Dickinson, Matt McCloud, Ann Marie Rassman, Herb Rassman, Mary Ann Snyder and Donna Philips Hauck who all offered great support to him in his final days.

In his last years, he became a dachshund aficionado and leaves behind Maggie and his special dog Jody. He also lost one of his dogs Sadie this summer and we know that they are now joyfully reunited.

The family would like to express our gratitude to everyone at the Brown Cancer Center where Sam received world class treatment over the last years. Special thanks to Dr. Vivek Sharma, Dr. Charles Scoggins and Dr. Gary Vitale who gave us four years in which we were able to fulfill some of our dreams.

Most recently Sam worked on the restoration of the Pilcher pipe organ at Memorial Auditorium which was for him a labor of love. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Bauer Foundation for the continued restoration of the organ. Additionally, Sam was served by the wonderful people of Hosparus of Louisville and donations can be made to that organization as well.

A celebration of Sam's life will be held at 7pm, Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane in St. Matthews.
