Ruth Karen Bailey, 82, of Salem, Indiana, passed on to be with Jesus her Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 5:53 p.m. at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Ruth Karen was born on May 28, 1941 in Lynnville, Indiana. The daughter of Charles and Opal Bailey.
Ruth Karen was a Christian and member of First Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She directed the choir and played piano for the Praise Band.
Ruth Karen graduated from Lynnville High School in 1958, from Oakland City College with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 1962 and received a Masters Degree from Indiana State University. She taught music at Turkey Run, West Washington and Floyd County School Corporation in several of their elementary schools and Hazelwood Middle School. As Director of the Hazelwood Headliners, she took the show choir on several trips. They competed at Disney World, Orlando, FL Branson, MO, Washington D.C., Toronto, Canada, Pigeon Forge, TN, Chicago, IL, and some cruises as well. Hazelwood Middle School dedicated the music room in her honor in 2023.
Ruth Karen is survived by her brother, David (Diana) Bailey; her niece, Sara Jo (Steve) Stewart; her niece-in-law, Jill Bailey; great-nephew, Derek (Erika) Bailey; great-nephew, Bradley (Emily) Stewart; great-niece, Brittany (Ryan) Stout; great-nephew, Colton (Haley) Stewart; and great-nephew, Adam Stewart. She also has several great-great-nieces and nephews, Lola, Korver, Aalayah, Jordan, Haleigh, Jackson, Raelee and Nathan.
Ruth Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Opal Bailey of Lynnville, Indiana; and a nephew, Brian D. Bailey of Bloomington, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville (2402 E 10th St, Jeffersonville, IN). Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. EST. Her Funeral Service will be at the church at 11:00 am EST on Friday March 8, 2024. She will be laid to rest by her parents at Lynnville Cemetery in Lynnville, Indiana and no burial service will be performed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth Karen's memory can be made to First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville or Hazelwood Middle School Show Choir in New Albany Indiana.
