Russell Gerard Baker

Russell Gerard "Jerry" Baker, 91, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 29, 2023. He was born on January 4, 1932, in New Albany, Indiana, to Russell Baker, Sr., and Catherine (Eckerle) Baker. He was in the first graduating class of Bellarmine College in 1954 and was the state collegiate golf champion in the state of Kentucky. He was a stockbroker with Paine Webber. Jerry loved gardening, cooking, and making Artisan Bread. He enjoyed learning the art of woodworking with his good friend Joe Marshall.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Wanda (Thorn) Baker; two sons, Peter (Gayle) Baker and Matthew Baker; daughter, Ellen (Rusty) Jacobi; four grandchildren, Ariel (Adam) Owen, Rachel Jacobi, Amy Baker, and Colleen (Matt) Settle; two great-grandchildren, Juliet and Gabrielle Owen; and sister, Barbara Gray. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Barr.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). He will be laid to rest privately at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
