Ruby Elaine (Wright) Hosier, age 82, entered into her heavenly kingdom on July 16, 2023, in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on April 11, 1941, to Jesse Adam and Gladys Lorraine (Merrilees) Wright in Beechwood, Indiana. She was raised and went to school in Crawford County, graduating from Crawford County High School in 1959. When she entered the career workforce, Ruby was employed at many places from the old St. Anthony's Hospital in Louisville to the practice of Drs. Robinson and Pierce, from Norton Community Medical Associates to Orthopedic Surgeons, from where she retired after a long career in the medical field. She did it all, from EKGs to drawing blood, assisting with exams and interacting with patients, to insurance referrals and other charting/paperwork.
Ruby, throughout her life, enjoyed many memorable trips, time with her Graceland Baptist church family and Bible study group, church outings, family get-togethers, and, in her quieter years, kept active with her favorite seek-and-find puzzles, visiting with neighbors and friends, and kicking back watching old episodes of Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, NCIS, Golden Girls, and Magnum PI. She was an avid fan of Tom Selleck and Elvis Presley, 50s music, and gospel hymns. She was deeply touched by the kindness of people and the simple wishes of a greeting card and loved to share everything with those around her, especially special treats or candy. She dearly loved her Crawford County and riding through the countryside, ending up with a BBQ sandwich at Polly's Freeze. In her last years, she was tenderly cared for by the Memory Care Unit at Lincoln Hills Health Center, and we are deeply grateful for the love they gave her.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved parents; brother, Robert Wright, and sister-in-law, Karen Wright; sister, Frances Collins and brother-in-law Charles Collins. Jr.; as well as other aunts, uncles, and loved ones. Ruby is survived by daughter, Catherine Rogers (Aaron), as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins, a large group of friends, and her grand-dogs and grandcat. She loved her family and friends more than anything and cherished her time with them.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana) and will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Riddle Cemetery in Crawford County.
To honor Ruby, you may donate to the Alzheimer's Association, American Lung Association, Hosparus Health of Louisville and Southern Indiana, or the charity of your choice, as well as paying her love forward with kindness to everyone you meet. The family thanks everyone for their prayers and love as we say goodbye to Ruby as she is welcomed into God's heavenly embrace.
