Ronald Arthur Messinger, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024.
He was born on November 28, 1934 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to the late Arthur and Helen (Graves) Messinger. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Edna Mae (Cooper) Messinger.
Ronald was a farmer at heart, always ready for whatever needed to be planted, cultivated or harvested next. When he had his heart attack he refused to go to physical therapy because he said if you planted a good garden you would have all the exercise you needed. He also loved fishing and camping. As a fisherman he spent most of his time on the bank but his favorite was deep sea fishing…even though he got seasick every single time!!
But beyond all of these enjoyments, Ron loved Jehovah God and the Bible. He was baptized January 14, 1951 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as a preacher of the Good News in the Elizabethtown and Jeffersontown congregations. He became convinced he had found the truth when shown Genesis 2:7 that man became a living soul….he wasn't given one. That changed his life. He was an ardent life-long student of God's word. No one ever out-studied that man!!! He cared deeply for Jehovah's people and often said we should work as hard keeping our brothers and sisters in the congregation as we work to find a new sheep.
In closing, all of us can agree that Dad could be a difficult person but in the end he left behind some important lessons. Dad taught me how to be generous; to be happy to have the opportunity to work hard and see good for it; to love God's Word; and to be content.
Ronald is survived by his loving children, BethAmy Ronette Miller (Gary), Shawn Edmon Messinger; grandson, Isaiah Scott Miller and cousin, Orville Dean Foreman (Ann).
