Ronald Eugene Jenkins, 68, of Greenville, Indiana, went home to Jesus on July 11th. He was a retired firefighter for the City of Louisville and was owner of Jenkins & Jenkins Builders and Water Tower Storage. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was considered chief cook and building trustee. He loved working on churches, was a member of Laborers for Christ, and was instrumental in church building projects in Perry GA, Louisville KY, Leitchfield KY, and New Salisbury IN. He was vice president of Greenville Concerned Citizens, past president of Greenville Optimist Club, and a past board president for the Greenville Township Fire Department for which he built Greenville Fire Station No. 2.
He was born on October 9, 1946 in Evansville, IN to the late Ralph and Irma Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Peggy Flowers, Ralph Jenkins, Jr., Dorothy Kennedy, and Rosalee Zentmyer.
Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elaine "D0lly" (Alles) Jenkins; children, Tony Jenkins (Beth), Dr. Chris Jenkins (Krista), grandchildren, Shelby Lipps, Blake Lipps (Cami), Carson, Katelynn, and Garron Jenkins; Sister Bonnie Ryan; Sister-In-Laws Jane Hadley (Tom Perry), and Debbie Chapman; Brother-in-laws Bob Alles (Claudia), and Harold Zentmyer; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Celebration of Life Service will be on Wednesday July 15, 2015 at 11 AM with visitation before from 9 to 11 AM at Grace Lutheran Church (1787 Klerner Lane, New Albany, IN 47150) with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Refurbishing Fund.
