Ronald Bruce Dowdell

Ronald Bruce Dowdell, 83, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. He graduated from Western Kentucky University, where he was a member of the ATO Barrons. Ron taught Psychology and Biology at Male and Charlestown High Schools. While at Charlestown, Ron started the football program and later would coach track and field at Male and football at Scribner Middle School. He was a longtime member of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born on July 11, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Robert and Rachel (Watson) Dowdell. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Dowdell, and sister-in-law, Helen.

Ron is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathryn (Taylor) Dowdell; daughters, Sabrina Noplis (Michael) and Terri Dowdell; brother, Dr. Dick Dowdell (Janice); granddaughters, Amber and Mandy; 12 nieces and nephews, 19 great-nieces and -nephews, 5 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and numerous good friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
