Ronald Howard Bumba was born on April 6, 1943 to Howard A. Bumba and Regina Kiefner Bumba in Baltimore, Maryland. He courageously passed away on June 26, 2022. Ron graduated from Trinity High School, in Louisville, KY a proud member of the class of 1961 where he participated in band, bowling, and variety shows. He spent his working career with Dupont Rubber Co. in Louisville, KY. He always enjoyed spending time with family for UK basketball and holiday parties. Some of his fondest memories were visiting Troy and Laurie and their sons at Lake Lanier, and boating with family and friends at Cumberland Lake. He loved spending time with his young daughter Katelyn enjoying dinner and movies together.
Ron was a member of KY National Guard 138th Artillery which was called to active duty in Vietnam. He served as "gunner" on howitzer duty in Danang, Dong Ha, and direct fire at the Ho Chi Minh Trail earning a number of citations and medals including the Nam Cross of Gallantry. Ron enjoyed spending time with his military buddies and talking about the good times.
He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother and his Brother, Charles Bumba. Ron is survived by his loving family; Children, Troy David (Laurie) Bumba, Jason Wade Bumba, and Katelyn Marisa Bumba; Grandchildren, Jacob Bumba and Maxwell Bumba; Siblings, Patricia (Jack) Mitchell, Linda (Tom) Dues, Nancy (Bruce) Hardin, and Alan Bumba, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and doctors at UL Hospital (ICU Core 5), who so compassionately and professionally cared for Ron.
Family gathering before the open visitation begins will be held on July 27, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Friends are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funerals- Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Hwy. A prayer service will be held at 1:00 pm followed by his burial at 2:30 pm at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (Central) in Radcliff, Kentucky.
