Romeo Abella Ecarma, M.D.

Romeo Abella Ecarma, M.D. was born on January 9, 1934, in Cebu, Philippines to the late Juanito and Julia (Abella) Ecarma. Dr. Ecarma was a faithful husband and father, and believed in education and hard work. He was the medical officer at the Government Service Insurance System in Cebu. He was a house physician at Ss. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, KY, and retired from Bethesda North in Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his brothers Juanito, Jr. and Joven.
After enduring life-threatening traumas, including heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure, he was placed under hospice care. After a few months, he showed dramatic improvement because of daughter Des and wife Jacinta's loving day-to-day medical and nutritional oversight. His courageous year-long battle with kidney failure was interrupted by a rupture of the aortic aneurysm, surprising the Ecarma family. Dr. Ecarma died with his loving family at his side.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jacinta Estoque Ecarma; sister Editha Ecarma Rodriguez; daughter Desiree, sons Roehl (Mickele), Reginald (Lorri), and Rex (Melissa); grandchildren Jordan, Jenna, Josiah (Jessica), Caleb, Nathan, Alexis, Abigail, Jonathan, Xavier, Landon, and Michael. The Ecarma Family commit and commend Dr. Ecarma's spirit to the Lord Jesus Christ, our Blessed Hope.
Visitation will be from 1-5 pm Sunday, July 29 and 9-11 am Monday, July 30, at Newcomer Funeral Home at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243. A memorial service to honor the life of Dr. Ecarma will be held on Monday at 11am at Newcomer Funeral Home with a graveside ceremony and burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery at 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40205.
In loving memory of Dr. Ecarma, the family has requested that memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) be given to the Ecarma Family Memorial Fund in care of Jacinta Ecarma (to be sent to Newcomer Funeral Home at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243).
