Roger Keith Hills, age 59, of Louisville, KY, passed away Saturday, October 19th, 2019.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Dodie, who was the love and savior of his life. He is also survived by daughter Mary (Ken) Guimond; son Roger Hills; mother Peg Weis; sisters Lorrie (Mickey) Wheeler and Suzette (Mark) Decker; brother JC (Sherry) Weis; grandchildren Samantha Guimond and Ava, Ella, James, Grace, Matthew, and Aaron Shafer; nieces Allie Decker and Kim Seale; nephews Sam Decker, Shawn and Brandon Wheeler, and Josh Seale; fur baby Sophie, and many good friends.
He is preceded in death by his brother Kipper Hills in 1995, his best friend and partner in crime; and his father Roger Kendall Hills.
Roger was born in Westfield, MA. He made his way through Delaware, Florida, and back to Massachusetts before settling in Louisville, where he met the love of his life, Dodie. Dodie and Roger wed on May 9, 2007, a beautiful day that topped any of Jeff Gordon's or Tom Brady's victories.
Roger enjoyed many, many things. Among those things were fishing, taking pictures, flipping canoes while fishing and taking pictures, NASCAR (specifically Jeff Gordon), laughing, making other people laugh, Stephen King, Steven Spielberg, his PlayStation®, sharing memories and telling stories, The Patriots, and above all, his family.Whether sitting around a potluck dinner, playing card games, or regifting that leg brace at yet another White Elephant Christmas party, Roger was happy. His family was his life. Roger knew no stranger. He had a knack for starting conversations with anyone and everyone and always made those around him feel comfortable. His friendliness and warmth made him a brilliant salesman. Roger was a dedicated Costco employee for 13 years and worked as an outside marketer. He was a member of quite a few city chamber associations through Costco, including the Prospect Chamber, Middletown Chamber, and St Matthews chamber. He was also a member of the Middletown VFW 1170.
Roger was a phenomenal, passionate teacher. Whether teaching his kid brother Jay how to jump off the roof into the backyard pool or teaching his nephew how to fish, he had a strong spirit in a day and age when personal conviction doesn't seem to matter much.
With a wide smile and loud laugh, Roger lit up every room he entered. His joy, humor, and impeccable memory will be forever missed.
Friends and loved ones can visit with the family on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 2 PM - 4PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Dr. Louisville, KY, 40243, with a Celebration of Roger's life to follow at 4 PM at the funeral home.
Roger courageously won his three year battle over cancer and the family requests that memorial donations in Roger's name can be made to American Cancer Society.
