Roger Allen Dannenfelser, 86, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 to walk with his Lord. He was born on July 14, 1935, in Corydon, Indiana.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lola (Bays) Dannenfelser; daughter, Ruth Ann (Drew) Gillespie, Fishers, IN; son, Randal A. (Camila) Dannenfelser, Fairborn, OH; grandchildren, Janessa L. Dannenfelser, Columbus, OH, Scott L. (Rachel) Gillespie, Fishers, IN, Melinda L. (Michael) Dannenfelser, Columbus, OH, and Shannon I. (Parker) Gillespie McDonald, Spartanburg, S.C.; great grandchildren, Elaina Nicole Gillespie and Elijah Scott Gillespie, Jacob Bradley Gillespie, Fishers, IN and Andersen Ruth McDonald of Spartanburg, S.C.; step-brothers, Sandy (Phyllis) Dannenfelser, Floyds Knobs, IN and Joe (Gloria Jean) Dannenfelser; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth (Wheat) Dannenfelser; brother, George L. Dannenfelser, Jr.; and step-mother, Alma (Rough) Dannenfelser.
Roger was always interested in mechanics and graduated from Speed Scientific School in Louisville, KY. He worked at Robinson Machine Shop, Louisville Gas & Electric, and retired after 36 years of service from Naval Ordnance Station, Louisville, KY. He also served for three years in the Air National Guard in Louisville, KY, as a propeller mechanic and retired as a machinist.
Roger was active in his church, Floyds Knobs Christian, serving as deacon, trustee and on the Church Board for several years. He and his wife were very active in square dancing since 1957 in Merry Makers, Dosidos, Skylines, and Sunnyside Solo Clubs. They served the offices of Kentuckiana Square Dance Association twice, chaired many committees, and served on the Board of two National Square Dance Conventions. He also enjoyed bowling several times a week with "the guys." Open, friendly and always ready to help, Roger never met anyone he could not befriend.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Wednesday after 10:00 a.m. at Floyds Knobs Christian Church (3838 Paoli Pike, Floyds Knobs). His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, at the church, with burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon, Indiana.
