Rochella Maurice Turner

Rochella Maurice Turner was born on December 10, 1939 in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, the third child of Ambrose and Garnetta Meaux. As a young girl, she helped on the family farm with the chickens, cows and tobacco plants. She also learned to play the piano at an early age. She was a graduate from Central High School.

She knew she wanted to be a nurse at an early age and attended nursing school. She began her nursing career at St. Joseph Infirmary working on med surg unit at bedside and also in surgery. When the hospital moved and became Humana Hospital Audubon she was promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing where she remained until retiring in 1997. She then worked a brief stint at Bacons department store, then a substitute teacher in the elementary school system, finally becoming a realtor for Parks & Weisburg selling homes.

She accepted Christ at an early age, and was a faithful member of Oakland Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky where she played piano for Sunday school and was also a teacher and sang in the choir. She met and married Shelby L. Turner in 1966 and had 2 children. She loved having family gatherings, cooking, sewing, and working with her plants and gardening, and playing Bid Whiz.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Lee Turner, her parents, Ambrose and Garnetta Meaux; and her siblings, Zenovia Meaux, Clement Meaux, and Van Meaux.

She leaves to mourn her children Deanna Turner, Cheryl Stone. Siblings, Meldora Miles, Maureen Meaux, Blanche Hester, Delcie Birts, Causten Meaux (Fran), Ellison Meaux (Liz), Morrison Meaux (Vandetta), nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Oakland Baptist Church, 1226 Algonquin Parkway, Louisville, KY 40208. A funeral ceremony will follow the visitation that day at 12:00 pm with burial to follow at St. Stephen Cemetery in Louisville..
