Robert S. "Bob" Chambers, 87, of Corydon, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011. He was a WWII veteran of the 434th Troop Carrier Group. He received battle honors from the invasion of Normandy.
Bob was born on March 7, 1924 in Westport, Kentucky, to the late Robert "Pate" and Mary Martha (Lentz) Chambers. He was also preceded in death by his brother, W.S. "Jim" Chambers.
He is survived by his daughters, Lissa Powell and her husband, Steven, of Corydon, Sidney Allen and her husband, Dave, of Indianapolis; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen following Bob's wishes and burial will take place on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the New Albany National Cemetery with full military honors. Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150) is in charge of the arrangements.
