Robert (Bob) L. Rogers, age 99, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023. He was born in Frankfort, Kentucky on February 24, 1924, son of the late Leslie and Pat Rogers. He graduated from Frankfort High School and the University of Kentucky with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class, where he earned both the Victory Medal and the European Theatre Ribbon with 5 bronze stars.
Following military service, Bob married Mary Nichols, also of Frankfort, KY. In 1949 they moved to Louisville, where he began a long and successful career as a Mechanical Engineer. Among his career highlights was assisting in the design of an air purification system which enabled nuclear submarines to stay submerged for long periods of time. He also designed and inspected chemical plants around the world. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Mary and two sisters, Carolyn and Elizabeth.
Bob is survived by his three children, Ann Rogers (April Evans), Paul Rogers (Barbara) and Becky Taylor (Terry Dailey); five grandchildren, Eric Rogers (Laura), Carrie Bucalo (Ryan), Jeff Taylor (Kathy), Austin Taylor (Alyssa), and Adam Fisher (Jackie); nine great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Bob will long be remembered for his compassion, intelligence, witty sense of humor and his unending love for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He had an amazing ability to build lasting friendships throughout his entire life.
The family would like to express appreciation to Belmont Village for the thoughtfulness and consideration shown to Bob during his residency there, and to Baptist Health of Louisville for their care and compassion during Bob's final days.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11am on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Newcomer, Cremations, Funerals and Receptions East Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243, with a celebration of Bob's life at 11am. Burial will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
Bob's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
