Robert Anthony Brown, 79, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army who bravely served a tour in Vietnam. Bob retired from AT&T after 35 years of employment and was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.
Bob most enjoyed being with his family and friends. He organized many social events over the years. He looked forward to regular breakfasts and dinners and included anyone and everyone who would come. "The more the merrier."
He grew to love the outdoors early in his life while being in the Boy Scouts of America. He continued this love by taking his family camping, fishing, boating (waterskiing), hiking, and horseback riding along with his friend's families. He showed others how to enjoy the simple things in life such as walks in the creek, sitting around a campfire, and gazing up at the stars.
Bob always seemed to be the "life of the party" but never needed to be the center of attention. He enjoyed music and loved to sing to anyone who would listen. He took literally the meaning of the saying "dance like no one is watching." He lived life intentionally and spoke his mind unfiltered using a sense of humor that would take the edge off (well, most of the time). Bob never met a stranger.
He was born on April 3, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky to Joseph and Florence (Bond) Brown. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Clara Ann Hines, Mary Josephine, Malcolm, William Francis and John Brown.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda (Smith) Brown; daughters, Dana Pryor (Tim), Donna Brown; siblings, Edith Finch, Rosie Hynes, Charlie Brown (Patti), Sam Brown (Judy), Rev. Benedict Brown, Teresa Tabor, Mary Jo Barry (Rick), Jeanie Prather; grandchildren, Justin Cox (Ashlee), Corinne Cox (fiancée, Conner Smith), David Anthony Betz, Isabela Betz; great-grandchildren, Luke Anthony Cox, Layne Cox; and numerous generations of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Bob's wish was to be cremated and a reception of family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a memorial service taking place at 6:00 p.m.
After losing his 8-year battle with prostate cancer, Bob would have appreciated contributions in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society so that others may survive.
