Robert L. "R.L." Meek, Jr. (1931-2019)
R.L. was born in Louisville, KY on September 4, 1931 to Maysel (Day) Meek and Robert L. Meek, Sr. He graduated from Louisville Male High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of Louisville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Beechwood Baptist Church in St. Matthews.
He met his wife, Peggy, at a youth group gathering at Crescent Hill United Methodist Church where they were later married on September 28, 1951.
Mr. Meek spent most of his professional career working in Accounting and Customer Service at Durkee Foods. In retirement, he worked several years at Allied Sporting Goods.
Mr. Meek earned his Eagle Scout award in Boy Scout Troop 1 at Crescent Hill United Methodist and served as a Scout Leader in Boy Scout Troop 309 at Watkins Memorial United Methodist for over 40 years where he was a role model and positive influence in the lives of countless young men.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy Ann (Morgan) Meek; two children, Robert Allen Meek (Pam) and Linda Kelly Berry (Kris); and four grandchildren: Karen Meek, David Meek (Michelle), Timothy Meek (fiancé Ellen), and Julie Berry.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Middletown on Tuesday, May 21 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held immediately prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Salvation Army or Wayside Christian Mission.
