Rita G. Duane

Rita Greenwell Duane died peacefully at home on July 17, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Loretta Greenwell; husband, John J. (Jack) Duane, Sr.; and two daughters-in-law, Martha (Marty) Duane and Diane Kenney Duane.

She is survived by her sister, Regina O'Daniel; sons, John J. Duane, Jr., R. Brian Duane, Sr., P. Kevin Duane; and daughters, Kathleen Duane and Denise (Bill) Yuen. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rita will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Rita had a Masters of Arts Teaching Degree from Spalding University. She also earned a Masters of Educational Psychology from the University of Louisville. She taught in Jefferson County and the Catholic School Systems for many years. She also worked as a Human Resource Director for a local department store. She finished her professional career in private practice as a family therapist at SouthEnd Counseling Service.

She was a member of Al-Anon for 41 years, helping and providing guidance to countless others.

In lieu of flowers, Rita's wishes were for donations to be directed to AFG (Al-Anon Family Group), 4401 Bishop Lane, Louisville, KY 40218 or St. Helen's Al-Anon Group.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2013 from 12pm to 8pm and continue Saturday, July 20 from 10am to 12pm with service to follow at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40272).
