Rick Edward "Ricky" Hutchison was born April 13, 1950, to Ernest Hutchison, Jr and Betty Hutchison Schaefer in Louisville, Kentucky. Ricky was called to rest by God on Thursday, March 16, 2023, in Decatur, Georgia. Ricky was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, an uncle, a cousin, and a dear friend to so many people.
While growing up in Louisville, Ricky attended DuValle Jr. High School and duPont Manual High School where he played sports, participated in school plays, and gave various event speeches. He had a gift of gab and personality which served him well in both his personal life and professional careers. He was a member of Our Merciful Savior church where he was active in various church events and programs.
Ricky continued his education by attending Morehead State University for 2 years and eventually completed his degree by graduating from the University of Louisville. Professionally, while in Louisville, Ricky worked at the Courier Journal as a Circulation Manager, which earned him many Achievement Awards. He also worked at Humana, Hurstbourne Country Club, the Galt House Hotel, Roppel's Meats (as a meatcutter), and Shell Oil Company.
During his adult years, Ricky moved to Georgia making Decatur his final home. He mostly worked for the Season's Finest organization under the direction and guidance of June Warner, the company founder. Working in the Hospitality industry, Ricky served in a number of roles such as Bartender, Food Server, Waiter, and Banquet Assistant Manager.
Ricky was an avid sports fan of basketball, football, and baseball. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Braves, and whatever NBA basketball team his nephew played on.
For those who really knew Ricky, they knew he loved life and lived it to the fullest. It was often said that he had "9 lives" because he often found himself in dangerous, sometimes life-threatening, situations but always somehow managed to get through them. As an example, while celebrating a homecoming football weekend during one of his college years, he fell out of an 11-story dormitory building, lived to not only tell about it, but actually attended the homecoming dance that same weekend. Ricky was popular, never meeting a stranger, and had a robust personality which will be greatly missed.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Hutchison, Jr.
Ricky leaves to cherish his memory…his mother, Betty Hutchison Schaefer; his brother, Charles Hutchison; 3 children, and a host of family, friends, church family, and acquaintances.
A gathering to celebrate Rick's life will be 11am to 1pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky. Burial will follow in Berrytown Cemetery.
