Richard "Michael" Thompson, 66, of Elizabeth, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Born on July 15, 1957 in Louisville, Kentucky to Richard and Mary (Riedley) Thompson, he grew up in the St. Denis parish as a child, and then on the family farm in Fisherville, KY. He attended Saint Xavier High School and graduated from Jeffersontown High School. In his youth, music was his passion. He was an extraordinarily accomplished guitar player, as well as a beautiful vocalist. He began to work at Koetter Construction Company in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and eventually retired from there after 40 years of service in January, 2023.
In 1993, he met the love of his life, Angela, and they married on June 30, 1995. He claimed this to be his highest accomplishment. Together, they have five children, who were his greatest sources of pride and joy.
Michael was a man of tireless service, prayer, and boundless love for: his family, his Roman Catholic faith, and for God. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church. He lived each and every day to the full with great exuberance and purpose, and was deeply spiritual.
Along with his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his siblings, Lisa Tapp and Gregg Thompson.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Angela (Shirley) Thompson; children, Abigail Kooistra (Jesse), Natalie, Miles, Isabella, and Jack Thompson; sisters, Monica Lord (Cris), and Celeste Lawson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Sills (Rick), Michael Shirley, Karen Summers (Roger), Daniel Shirley, Kim Fitzgerald (Brian), Barbara Reynolds (Joe); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 639 S. Shelby Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40202, (also known as the Shrine of St. Martin of Tours) with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Lanesville, Indiana.
