Richard Lane Saylor

September 25, 1959 — February 27, 2020

Richard Lane "Rick" Saylor of Lanesville, Indiana, beloved husband and best friend of Sally (House) Saylor for 18 years, died peacefully at the age of 60 on Thursday, February 27, 2020, surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved.

Richard was proceeded in death by his mother Rosemary (Ballard) Saylor and his father Howard Saylor as well as brother-in-law, Larry Simcoe. He leaves behind four daughters, Gwendolyn MacIntosh (Michael), Ariel Saylor, Marcella Gadd (John), and Stacy Conde (Arlan); three grandchildren, Tyler Gadd, Bayleigh Conde, and unborn, Zeke Conde. Richard has one brother Howard Wayne (Peggy); four sisters, Marla Byrd (Steve), Susan Wheeler (Mark), Cathy Simcoe, and Angela White. Besides his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings, Richard was blessed with many other relatives and dear friends.

Richard was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated from Durrett High School. From 1983 through 1987, he served in the U.S. Navy. He received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Aspen University.

After discharge from the Navy, Richard served the community as a police officer for the City of Louisville and then later for the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). At the time of his retirement from LMPD, Richard was the Sergeant/Commander of the air unit. After retirement from LMPD, he worked for several police agencies, the most recent being Indiana University Southeast Police Department.

Richard also served his community by volunteering his time and skills in construction, clean-up, and other various ministries. Some of his favorites were Project Hope, The Green Valley Nursing Home, and home Bible studies with his family and friends. There was never a project he was unwilling to tackle. Google and YouTube videos provided much of his training when there was a need to be filled beyond his prior training or experience. His love and concern for people, especially those in need, was an overflow of his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Richard's life exemplified the scripture in Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you."

The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Southern Care Hospice and Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center for their outstanding care. Our heartfelt thanks, also, to all those who provided food, messages, cards, visits, help, encouragement, and, most especially, prayers during Richard's illness.
