Richard Lee "Dickie" Gedling, 64, of Clarksville, Indiana passed away on November 21, 2013.
Dickie was born on June 19, 1949 in Clark County, Indiana to the late Edward David & Dorothy Ardith (Dooley) Gedling. He served as a medic in The United States Army during the Vietnam War earning the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. Dickie was retired as a Sergeant for the Clarksville Fire Department, where he worked for over 20 years. Even after his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the firehouse with all the guys. Dickie was a family man and loved to spend time watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a member of the Harvest Chapel, Church of the Nazarene in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Haller) Gedling; children, Tina Martin (Wes) & Richard Gedling (Vickie); step-children, Julie Elrod (Daniel) & John Early (Danielle); brother, Edward Gedling; sister, Dorothy Payne (William); 21 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, Dickie is preceded in death by his sister, Delores "Dody" Gedling.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 8 PM on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). His Funeral Service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
