Richard R. Barker

July 16, 1933 — December 5, 2024

Hernando

Richard R. Barker, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and passionate member of his community, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on July 16, 1933, Richard lived a life rich in love and faith, making indelible marks on all who had the honor of knowing him.

For five decades, Richard dedicated himself to the world of business, serving as a businessman from 1953 until his retirement in 2005. His commitment and leadership shone brightly in his role as President of Silgas, where he earned numerous accolades. Despite the recognition, Richard credited his success to his deep faith in God—a testament to the values he held dear.

He attended Ball State University, where he was a member of the basketball team, track team, and concert choir. Music remained a lifelong passion, and Richard was known for his singing talents, enchanting those around him with his resonant voice.

Richard's faith was foundational to his being. He was very active in various church communities, including Southeast Christian Church, Walnut Street Baptist in Louisville, Windfall Christian Church, First Christian Church of Borden, and Seven Rivers Presbyterian in Lecanto, FL. Seldom did he miss an opportunity to witness to others, sharing the love and teachings of his faith. His love extended beyond his spiritual endeavors; it was his family that truly filled his heart with joy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Donna Barker. He leaves behind his sister, Carolyn Smith, his cherished children: son Brad (Alicia), daughters Beth (Rick) Houze and Britney (Greg) Byrne, step-daughter Michelle (Michael) Schwabe. Richard took great delight in his grandchildren—Abra, Bradley (Kelci), Tyler (Anna) Houze, Sarah (Miguel) Reyes, Hannah, Madysen (Travis Vest) Byrne, Karleigh (Luke) Fisher, and Patrick Byrne—and their growing families. His legacy will continue through his great-grandchildren: Navy Rose Houze, Ariana Reyes, Piper Houze, Asher Reyes, and Hallie Jo Barker.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Glen Barker; mother, Byrona Barker; and brother, Bob Barker. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who remain.

His warmth, sincerity, and unwavering love for his family and faith will be deeply missed. Richard R. Barker's life was a shining light to many, and his words, "Not bad for a little boy from Windfall, IN". His legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who loved him.
