Rev. William Robert Baker, age 86, from Louisville, KY, formerly of Childersburg, AL went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY.
He was born June 4, 1926 in Alexander, AL and was the son of the late Robert Lee Baker, Father and Mary Estelle Milam Baker Tyler, Mother. Also, preceding him in death was his brother, Lewis Baker of Chicago, Ill, and half- brothers Buddy Tyler, and Bill Tyler, and half-sisters Betty Matson, Nellie Faye Looney and Shirley Tyler, all of Childersburg, AL.
He was a retired Church of God minister, having entered the ministry at the age of 22. Attended Lee College (University) in 1949 – 1950. He served as pastor of 13 churches in the states of Alabama, Kansas, Virginia, Illinois, and West Virginia and also served as pastor of 2 mission churches.
He served 44 years in full-time ministry; 37 year as a Church of God District Overseer; 4 years on Alabama State Youth Board; 12 years on various State Councils; 6 years as chairman of State Ministerial Examining Board. Also, served on several appointed Boards and committees in different states.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beulah (Bea) Melinda Johnson Baker; one son, Rev. William Robert Baker, Jr. and his wife Donna of Louisville, KY; daughter, Janice E. Hagee and son-in-law, David Hagee of Roanoke, VA; daughter, Deborah J. Denton of Nashville, TN.

He is also survived by half-sisters Evie Bailey and Sandra Mask of Childersburg, AL.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and nurses of Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky for their care and kindnesses shown to our Dad.
A celebration of his life will be held at Childersburg Church of God, 801 9th Ave SW, Childersburg, AL 35044, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 4 until 8 pm.
Burial will be following the funeral ceremony on Wednesday at Green Hill Memorial Gardens.
Pastor W. Robert Baker and Rev. David E. Hagee will be officiating. Newcomer Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.
One of his favorite songs was "Stepping On the Clouds." He has stepped on the clouds to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!
