Rev. James Harris Sr., 80, of Louisville, KY went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Rev. Harris was born July 25, 1933 to Ransom and Ella Harris. He was a truck driver for 42 years throughout the US. Rev. Harris was also an ordained minister at Center Union Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, TX for 25 years before retiring and returning to Louisville. Rev. Harris proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged in 1956. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a "jack of all trades", loved motorcycles and building racing cars. Rev. Harris served as a chaplain of several nursing homes and was involved in prison ministry.
Besides his parents, Rev. Harris was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Harris and one brother, Ransom L. Huggens.
Left to cherish his memory, two sons James Harris Jr. and Wendell Harris, who was his caretaker; one brother, Frank Price, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; former spouse Pauline Grimes, and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of Rev. Harris' life will be held, Saturday September 14, 2013 at 11:00am at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church (1472 Dixie Hwy.). Visitation will be held Friday, September 13, 2013 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, also at Mt. Zion Missionary Church. Burial with military honors will be held, Monday, September 16, 2013 at 2:00pm at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
