Rev. Dr. Frank Thomas Hainer, age 90, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on March 12, 2024, in Louisville, KY. He was born on February 28, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Frank was a brilliant and humorous man who dedicated his life to serving as a Presbyterian minister. He served as a minister at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Laconia, IN, for over 20 years. Additionally, he spent over 20 years as the editor of adult Christian education material for The Presbyterian Church U.S.A. National staff. Frank was also proud of his teaching experience in Beirut, Lebanon, from 1956 to 1959.
He was a graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, PA, and held multiple degrees, including a Duke AB in 1956, Pittsburgh Seminary M Div in 1962, University of Chicago MA in 1967, University of Chicago Ph.D ABD 1972, and a Ph.D from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979.
Frank enjoyed hobbies such as playing bridge, bocce, fiddling with his 1929 Model-A Ford, and spending time with his family playing games. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Jean Hainer, daughters Meg Melissa Hainer and Typh Hainer Merwarth, grandchildren Maxwell Frank Walde, Rebecca Kathryn Walde, Soleil Amelia Merwarth, and Franklin James Merwarth, and was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and sister.
A memorial service is planned for April 13th at Springdale Presbyterian Church, 7812 Brownsboro Rd., Louisville, KY. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm, with the memorial service to start at 2:00 pm.
