Raymond Eugene Martin, 83, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Raymond was a beloved member of One Community Church in Clarksville. He was a hard worker that loved his family deeply, and everyone that knew him would tell you he was a good man.
He graduated from Paoli High School in 1959. Upon graduation, Raymond worked at Sunoco Gas Station in Paoli and Carpenter's Body Works in Mitchell, where he assembled school buses. The majority of his working life was spent being a "milk man," hauling for Meadow Gold Creamery in Louisville and Austin's Grocery Stores in Indiana. He finished out his career driving a truck for Denny Transportation in Jeffersonville, retiring in 2005.
He was born on September 16, 1940 in Paoli, Indiana to Herman and Jacie (Miller) Martin. In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his siblings, Marjorie Patton, Clarence and Roger Martin.
Raymond is survived by his cherished wife of almost 56 years, Deborah (Hughes) Martin; daughters, who were each his favorite in their own way, Sandi Baete (Joe), Kim Martin, Patti Numann (BJ); grandchildren whom he adored, Madeline Phillips, Dylan Baete, Maggie Frantz, Josie Baete, Ben Frantz; two treasured great-grandchildren that affectionately called him Papaw Raymond, Duncan and Emery Phillips; sister, Mary Alice Caraway; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Hughes, Joan Martin; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Stampers Creek Cemetery in Paoli.
