Raymond Louis Gettelfinger, 97, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Raymond was born on August 29, 1926, in Louisville to Herman and Olivia (Weaver) Gettelfinger. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Dorothy (Schmidt) Gettelfinger; daughter, Belinda Bartley; daughter-in-law, Becky (Friedman) Gettelfinger; and sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Jude Kruer.
Raymond is survived by sons, Dennis, David, and Duane Gettelfinger; daughter, Barbara Beach (Chris); grandchildren, Todd Gettelfinger (Jennifer), Kristin Gettelfinger (Erik Robinson), Chloe Beach, and Kyle Beach; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army that served during World War II and retired from General Electric after 32 years. Raymond was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Cardinal Ritter Council #1221.
Raymond enjoyed preparing the fields on his favorite tractor to nurture the vegetables for the community to enjoy, tinkering on anything mechanical, deciphering crossword puzzles, and savoring the delicious products of Dorothy's kitchen. Most recently, Raymond lived out the quote by Ernestine Ulmer, "Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first."
The family would like to express their gratitude to his special caregivers, Gentiva Hospice, and Beehive Assisted Living in Georgetown whose love and care for him were a blessing.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 8, 2024, at Newcomer Cremations, Funeral & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Thursday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana) with burial and military honors to follow in the church cemetery.
