Randy Whitt

January 28, 1952 — December 11, 2023

Randy Whitt, age 71, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love on Dec 11th. He had received a lung transplant 5 years ago and died suddenly from rejection complications.

Randy born in Ashland, KY most recently resided in Ft Myers, FL with his wife, Vicki. In addition to his wife Vicki, nee Miller, survivors include daughter Sara Aiyegbusi (Olu), son, Wes Gordon (Jenna) and 3 grandchildren; Elijah, Maya and Cairo Wiley, sisters, Sue Smith, and Karin Tackett, and many loving nieces and nephews. Also special friend-laws, Gerald and Diane Miller. Anyone who knew him, also knew being with his grandchildren were the happiest times of his life; no exceptions.

Randy was hired to be recruiting coordinator by football Coach Howard Schnellenberger, upon his arrival at UofL. He took great pride in being part of the resurgence of the program, and continued those relationships made with players and staff to this day.

After Randy left UofL he started a sports media business. His first task was co-founding the original 'Louisville Sports Report' creating the first sports magazine at the University. A few years later, working with former Kroger Mid-South Pres., John Hackett, he created and directed the Governors Cup Classic Honorees Dinner and Golf Tournament to honor former UofL and UK football players and coaches. He was so proud that this annual event has raised well over 1 million dollars for local charities.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Earth & Spirit Center (1924 Newburg Rd. Louisville, KY 40205). We invite all who shared his walk through life to come share your favorite fun memories, he would be honored. We ask any donations in his name be made to Trust For Life/Donate Life Organ Donor Association.
