Phyllis Ann (Becht) Smallwood

Phyllis Ann (Becht) Smallwood, 85, of Georgetown, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. She was a strong, faith-filled woman, who was devoted to her family, friends, and Guerin Woods family. Phyllis was a puzzle enthusiast and a cardshark. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Phyllis always put others' needs before her own, and she could light up a room with her big blue eyes and beautiful smile.

She was born on May 30, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Arvil Becht and Mary Beatrice (Barr) Becht. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Robert Smallwood; son, Steven Seng; brother, Richard Becht; sister, Lucille Missi; and son-in-law, Pat Mudd.

Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Nicholas (Terry) Seng, Cynthia (Brad) Niehoff, Cheryl Seng Bigler, Tony Smallwood (Laurel Lammers), Bernadette Mudd, Karen (Robert) Sacksteder, and Donna Cain; sisters, Linda (Mike) Steinbrenner, Sandy (Ralph) Pinnick, and Mary Becht; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Rosary Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church Chapel (5719 St. Mary's Rd, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119) with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

The family requests that contributions in Phyllis's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Lung Association.
