Phillip Lorring Cooper, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
He was born on April 13, 1942, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to the late Jessie and Cynthia (Johnson) Cooper. Phil was a beloved music educator with JCPS for 26 years, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. His passion for music and dedication to teaching enriched the lives of many.
Beyond his career in education, Phil was a multifaceted individual with diverse talents and interests. He was a French Trained Chef, honing his culinary skills at Maxime's in Paris, and delighting friends and family with his delicious creations. Additionally, Phil was an avid gardener, finding solace and joy in nurturing plants and cultivating beauty around him.
Phillip was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Cheryl K. Cooper, his parents, Jessie and Cynthia Cooper, four brothers - Oryce, Royce, Merrell, and Ermine Cooper - and two sisters, Zell Hunt and Bobbi Atwell. He now joins them in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories.
He is survived by his loving sons, Chris Cooper and Courtney Cooper, who will carry on his spirit with pride. Phillip also leaves behind his adoring granddaughters, Katie, Lizzie, and Amelia, whom he cherished dearly.
A service to honor and celebrate Phil's life will be held at a St. John Lutheran church, 901 Breckenridge Ln on April 13th, at 11:30 am. A cemetery service will be held at a later date in Cave City, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions in Phillip's memory be made to Cancer Research, a cause close to his heart.
