Patrick John Cronin entered Eternal Life near 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2022.
He was born a British citizen on October 19, 1943, in Cairo, Egypt, and gained citizenship in the United States in 1995. As he grew up, his family made several international moves, spending most of his childhood near Johannesburg, South Africa. After emigrating with his parents and siblings in 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving on active-duty June 1965-December 1968, and as a reservist until June 1971.
He studied at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. He spent most of his career working as an accountant and plant Controller for Tecumseh Products Company, headquartered in Tecumseh, Michigan. It was at Tecumseh Products in 1982 where he met his best friend and love of his life Susan Leslie.
Patrick and Susan were married in 1985. He enjoyed collecting postage stamps, model railroading, traveling with his family using their RV, and cruising in the Caribbean Sea. He also had a deep affection for Scouting, serving in various volunteer roles while his children were teenagers. He completed a course in Woodbadge and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Denis (Ed) and Ida Cronin, niece Michelle Cronin, and some very dear friends. His survivors include his wife Susan, son John (Bryan Phillips), daughter Catherine (Brian Elliott), siblings Michael (Joanne), Roger (Mary Ann), Jill McKinstry (Karl), Paul (Judy), sister-in-law Valerie Tanzilli (Jim), and many nieces and nephews.
All services will be performed at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) on Friday, March 4, 2022. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5 p.m. with cremation to follow. Rev. Dr. John Sterrett of St. Marks United Church of Christ (New Albany, Indiana) will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lincoln Heritage Council, BSA or a charity of choice in his memory.
