Patricia Ann Sloan was born on January 28, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia to Llyod and Nora Cramblett. She was the younger sister to Mary Sternberg. The two sisters bonded over their strong faith in the Lord and remained best friends until the end. Pat met her husband of 47 years, William (Bill) Sloan at the skating rink where they shared a slow skate. They raised four children together and shared the love of fishing, which included retiring to their lake home. Pat instilled a strong belief of faith in her children and was a living example in her dedication to serving the Lord.
She retired after 40+ years at McGraw-Hill where her strong work ethic was witnessed by all that knew her. She served within various organizations, including Construction Specifications Institution as an Executive Director where her coworkers often referred to her as the chapter “mom” because of the love and affection she showed each member.
Her faith guided her life and she worked diligently to ensure her children received a Catholic education. She attended St. Athanasius Church and established the Growing in Faith Together (GIFT) program which still thrives today. She taught religious education to children and provided guidance as they completed their sacraments. She had a special love for Father Terry Bradshaw who guided her in the Word of the Lord. Pat and Bill invited him and other church members to the lake for pontoon rides and her famous biscuits and gravy.
She spent her time working puzzles and playing a card game called Skip-Bo with family. Though she’d never admit it, she was notorious for hiding cards under her seat cushion and peeking at other’s cards. The love of family and having everyone gathered was of the upmost importance to her. Until her move to the lake home, every Sunday the family would gather for meals, including Lebanese cooking traditions. At the lake she welcomed all with an open door to share in the joy that her and Bill had built. She loved her family whole heartedly, which is evidenced in her prayer journal that she maintained over the last 10 years.
Pat was called mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, friend, and steward of God. She prayed and diligently asked her grandchildren to make her a great grandmother while on this earth. No family gathering was ever complete without the ‘ask of when’. While this did not happen in her lifetime, we know that she will be smiling down upon us when it does occur.
She is preceded in death by her parents Nora and Lloyd Cramblett and her grandson, Michael Bayne Canon Jr. She is survived by her husband William (Bill) Sloan, her sister Mary Sternberg, her four children, Lisa Austin, Stephanie Robinson-Raymer, William Michael Sloan Jr. (Heather), Nora Canon (Michael), and her grandchildren Jacob Austin, Ben Austin (Lauren), Alex Cline, Caitlin Sloan, Kayla Robinson, McKenzie Raymer, Shae Raymer, Max Canon, Pax Canon and lots of nephews and nieces.
