Oscar J. Hartfield, Jr., 90, formerly of Greenville, Indiana, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky early Saturday morning, July 3, 2010. Oscar was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII participating in the Battle of the Bulge and serving in the Pacific, a 32nd degree Mason of the Greenville Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rite of Evansville, Indiana and Shriners of Indianapolis. He was a pipefitter with the Local 502 (formerly Local 522) Pipefitters' Union and owned Hartfield Bottle Gas in Greenville from 1958 to 1983. He attended the Church of Latter Day Saints in New Albany.
Oscar was born on May 31, 1920 in Greenville, Indiana to the late Oscar J. Hartfield, Sr., and Flossie M. (Hendrickson) Hartfield. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, James "Bud", and Paul Hartfield.
He is survived by daughters, Judy L. Scott and her husband, Nelson of Danville, Illinois, Sue Ann Powers and her husband, David of Glenview, Illinois; son, Douglas L. Hartfield and his wife, Marie of Greenville, Indiana; grandchildren, Courtney Doran and her husband, Chris of Carmel, Indiana, Christopher Powers of Boston, Massachusetts, Nicholas Hartfield of Miami, Florida, Ashley Powers of New York City, New York, and Timothy Hartfield of Greenville; great grandchildren, Hannah, Connor, and Noah Doran; and many relatives and friends.
The visitation will be 1 to 7 PM Monday, July 5, 2010 at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (formerly Generations Funeral Home at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
