Opal C. Brandt, 86, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2014 in New Albany, Indiana, after a life full of love, family and the challenges of raising three daughters. A native of Hazard, Kentucky, Opal was born on August 25, 1928 to Lula and Seldon (Slim) Campbell, who predecease her.
Opal married Rollen Brandt on November 26, 1944 and spent the next 62 years raising their children, rock-hunting, traveling the continental United States, ham radio operating and enjoying a wide variety of music. Opal and Rollen were blessed with three loving daughters, Brenda (Mike) Snyder, B.J. (Betty Jo) Brandt and Barbara (Glenn) Lawrence, who survive her.
Opal was predeceased by Rollen, sisters Wanda Schmitt and Mildred Trobaugh and brothers Jimmy and Irving. In addition to her daughters, Opal is survived by her sister Goldie Page of Columbia, Mo., and Susie Campbell; granddaughters Sally Manning (Brent), Audrey Steier (Brian); Sarah Lawrence Harris (Bradley); grandsons Ben Lawrence, Patrick Lawrence (Stephanie Golaski) and Kevin Lawrence (Virginia). In addition, she deeply loved her 4 great-grandsons, Cole, Gavin, Henry and Zachary, and two great-granddaughters, Amelia and Lyla Mae. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) on Monday, November 3, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM. Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 4, at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church (918 Mt. Tabor Road, New Albany). A brief graveside service will follow at the cemetery adjacent to the church. Donations can be made to Hosparus - the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana or to Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church.
