Odessa Blackburn was born June 22nd,1932 in Huntsville, AL to the late Bertha & James Blackburn.
She finished school in 7th grade in Huntsville. At a young age, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Cavalry Hill Baptist Church. Odessa began her career at 16, as a licensed cosmetologist. Shortly after, she had her first child & met her husband, the late Eugene Jones. Eugene joined the air force as they traveled & lived in different states raising their children.
In 1958, they settled in Louisville, KY where she began her catering business. She cooked for many parties & people. She found love & joy in cooking & cooked every holiday & many gatherings for her family. She didn't let anything stop her from loving God, in 1959, she joined Sweet Leaf United Primitive Baptist Church, she was an active member until 2003, when she joined Shiloh Baptist Church, she rejoined Sweet Leaf UPB church in 2010. She made sure to have a meal ready every Sunday after church for her family & friends.
Odessa was a loving person who opened her home to anyone. She was known for her hilarious humor, great parties & warming advice. She took great pride in her entrepreneurship, being able to do what she wanted & loved at all times & being able to be apart of her grandchildren, nieces & nephews lives. She enjoyed her time near the river with one of her closest friends, Carol Whayne. She loved her entire life & vocally thanked God for every second of it.
She is preceded in death by: her mother & father; daughter, Terrilyn Slade; grandchildren, Lamont Jones, Autrice Davis, Daryl Ward, Jakala Hall; & sister, Theresea Pride. She leaves to cherish her sweet memories; children, Geraldine Davis, Eugene Jones Jr; sisters, Evelyn Jones (James) , Marie Ware, Minnie Pullen; brother, James Blackburn; 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren & a host of great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins & friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sweet Leaf United Primitive Baptist Church, 1814 Cedar Street, Louisville, Kentucky. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Sweet Leaf United Primitive Baptist Church with Burial to follow at Green Meadows Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
