Norman Anthony Bunton Sr.
May 29, 1951 — July 24, 2023
Norman Anthony Bunton, Sr., 72, of Louisville, Kentucky, departed life on Monday, July 24th, 2023.
He was born on May 29th, 1951 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to the late Granvill Bunton, Jr. and Millicent (Millie) Nanline (Joyce) Bunton, as the fourth of six sons (Harold, Paul, Granville, Norman, William and Mace). Granville Jr., or Dickie, was stationed in Normandy when Norman was born, and that is how he came by his name. He was raised by his grandparents, Grandpa Grunt and MaRuby in Tennessee. Norman started driving a semi-truck in 1973 and didn't stop driving one until 2019, when he retired. In the 46 years that he drove a truck, he visited all the lower 48 states and never once met a stranger along the way. He loved watching old western movies, karaoking with friends, and listening to blues music. His favorite team was the Louisville Cards Basketball. His favorite drink was Blanton's , and he loved to celebrate with a shot of Tito's. If he was just enjoying a night at the bar, you could always find him with a Bud Select and a good story. Norman had a special love for Churchill Downs and horses, he spent a lot of time on the track in his working years. More than anything, Norman loved his family, his children, grandchildren, brothers, and all who knew him like family in his life.
Norman is survived by his brothers, Harold (Kenny), William (Bill), and Mace (Stanley); hsi children, Jeremy Shackleford and wife Liz, Norman Bunton, Jr. (Major) and wife Jasmine, Rita Tribbey and husband Mark, John Bunton and partner Clare Weidner; his grandchildren, Mia, Julian, Hadley, Aiyana, Gabriel, Dominik, Mayah, Maelee, Kamari, Adrianna, Rashaan, and D'Angelo; and his life partner of 23 years, Tonya Crowe.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until 3: 00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. His Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
