Nelda Ruth Thomas Scull (Grammy), 70, went to her heavenly home August 17, 2012. In her final hour, she was surrounded with family by her side as they sang hymns, read scripture and reminisced about a life well lived.
Born in Burkesville, Kentucky May 17, 1942 and raised in Jeffersonville, Nelda spent her adult life in Clarksville, Indiana. She graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1960 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the editor of her high school newspaper. Nelda was employed by the town of Clarksville where she served as the lead Communications Officer for the Clarksville Police Department. She retired in 2008 after serving 32 years.
After retirement, Grammy spent her time with her family and friends. She volunteered for various causes including The Center for Lay Ministries and feeding the homeless. She was active in her church and attended weekly bible study. She enjoyed her daily walks and monthly club with her friends.
Nelda's favorite past time was spent with her eight grandchildren where she attended ballgames, plays and musical recitals. She was an inspiring role model for her grandchildren in every aspect of their lives.
Nelda is survived by her loving children, David Scull (Kelley), Kim Strong (Terry) and Karen Blue (Todd) and her grandchildren, Tristen & Liam Scull, Samantha, Chandler & Benjamin Strong, and Grace, Isaac & Bella Blue all of Louisville, Kentucky. Nelda is also survived by her siblings, Geneva York and Bill Thomas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edna Jewell (Traylor) Thomas & Duke Cordell Thomas and her brother, James Thomas. She leaves behind many other family and friends who loved her dearly.
Her children would like to thank her family and dear friends who sat beside her during her final months of life. Thank you to her medical caregivers for their compassion and care. Sincere gratitude is extended to Hosparus of Louisville who provided a peaceful ending to a beautiful life.
A memorial celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 21st, at 6:30 p.m at Northside Christian Church, 4407 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN. Visitation will begin at noon until the 6:30 p.m. service.
