Nannine Helen Ormsby Herr Sakal, age 70, passed on July 18, 2014 concluding her battle with pancreatic cancer. She was both a colon and breast cancer survivor. A direct descendant of the Herr-Ormsby families of Louisville, she was born August 17, 1943, the daughter of Robert W. Jr. & Lida G. Herr.
She served her country as a Navy reservist for 4 years. She was a resident of Manhattan and New Rochelle, New York for 10 years where she worked at Columbia Records and CBS television. While in New York she would meet her future husband, Ronald Sakal, with whom she would later marry and return to Louisville with to raise a family. She co-founded the Hero's program, a special elementary school program in which local police K-9 units would perform demonstrations and teach kids the importance of avoiding drugs. She also held positions in both the engineering and medical fields where she typed engineering specs and medical transcriptions. Of the titles she had, she held most dear the titles of "Homemaker" and "Mom".
She is survived by her husband Ronald Sakal, children Eric, Blake, and Sonya, grandchildren Brock, Ronan, Braiden, and Beckett, brother Stephan Herr, and long time friend Mary Jo Nay.
Visitation will be Thursday July 24, 2014 from 11am to 1pm with service to follow at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville,KY 40243.
