Our dear mother Nancy Lee Warfield (sadly/peacefully) passed away on Wednesday,
June 28, 2023 at her home. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when
we needed her.
Nancy was born on July 5, 1944 in Guthrie, Kentucky to Harmon L. Warfield and Mary
C. Goodlett. She was a 1962 graduate of Male High School. She went on to earn both
her Bachelors and Masters from Spalding University, where she later became an
adjunct instructor for a number of years.
Nancy loved math and science, and found herself most comfortable working in
laboratories for such companies as: Celanese; Brown & Williamson; Seagram's; and
Brown-Forman until her retirement in July 2016.
Nancy can best be described as a fighter, strong and determined. In August 2021, she
was diagnosed with ovarian cancer which soon became very aggressive. She fought
her disease valiantly with the help of family, friends, UofL Physicians Gynecologic
Oncology team and the Brown Cancer Center.
Nancy was very meticulous and wrote everything down. She was a natural caregiver,
volunteering her heart and time to several community groups and organizations.
Nancy enjoyed being outdoors and especially working in her yard with her many flowers
and plants.
Thinking about mom's life, one word comes to mind: Impact
She had such an impact on so many lives, inside and outside of her family. Former
co-workers and students that she taught and mentored kept in touch even after her
retirement. She formed long-term relationships with many of them and considered them
family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Jim and Kerney Warfield. Nancy
is survived by her sons, Andre (Cassandra) and Brian; daughter, Renee; brothers,
Robert (Zenobia) and Clifford; sisters, Lonnie, Marie, and Marion; 8 grandchildren and 4
great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish her
loving memory forever.
Nancy's wishes were to be cremated. Friends wishing to honor Nancy are invited to
make a donation in her name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or St. Jude
Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
"Mother" is such a simple word,
But to us there's meaning seldom heard.
For everything we are today,
Our mother's love showed us the way.
