Martin, Nancy Carol, passed away on March 7, 2012, losing her 18 month battle with lung cancer. Nancy was born on April 3, 1959. She was a spiritual woman and a member of Grace Immanuel United Church Of Christ. She was an employee of Louisville Bedding for several years, but found her calling during the last 12 years as an elementary teacher's assistant for the Jefferson County Public School system. Being around children was a great joy to her. She was a mentor at the after-school neighborhood program at her church. Nancy had patience like no other. She was a very caring and loving wife, a wonderful mom and nana. She enjoyed reading, tending to her rose bushes and being with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory husband Charles Martin, whom she met and began a life-long journey with at the young age of 12, that has spanned the length of almost 40 years. They just celebrated their 30 year wedding anniversary; she leaves her three daughters to carry on her memory, MeLinda Dowell (Mark), Donna Martin, and April Martin; her grandchildren, whom she described as her greatest joy in life, Miranda, Maleea, Serena, McKenna, and Rylan and a blessing on the way; her earthly chosen mother Brenda Edrozo (Stephen). Brenda enriched her life and loved her for the wonderful person she was. She is also survived by her brother Charles M. Horton.
Funeral ceremony will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 12th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with visitation on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Nancy's memory. Donations may be made to Whitney Young Elementary School, with checks payable to MeLinda Dowell with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
